Supervision seminar

The Narrative Approach to Supervision seminar was co-presented by David Newman and Michelle Brenner. The seminar encouraged participants to consider the application of narrative techniques in the supervision of mediators.Ideas such as the storying of professional lives and questioning the way values, culture, relationships and history inform our work were canvassed. We were given an opportunity to undertake a ‘re-authoring exercise’ so that we could practise the skills involved in these ideas. Those of us present considered some of the effects of a "two way account of work" which David explained can undermine the rigidity of power relations and provide a richer description of a people’s stories.ADRA would like to take this opportunity to thank David and Michelle for providing an innovative way of applying the principles of the narrative approach and for providing the space in which to practise new skills.
